What is Fantasy Football?

Fantasy Football is a game where you run a team as if you were the coach. It starts with a draft, just like the NFL, where all coaches draft their teams from real players in the NFL. Then each week the teams are put against each other and the Coaches score points for their teams based on the actual statistical points by the real players during the NFL week. Each team usually is made up of 2 QBs, 4 WRs, 3 RBs, 2 TE, 2 K, and 2 DEF.

Let's start with an example: My friends and I have a live draft and pick our players from the NFL. Let's say I had Tom Brady on my team. For week 1 I(TEAM 1) am put up against my friend(TEAM 2). Our points are based on how well our actual players do in the real NFL. So let's say Tom Brady has an excellent game and throws 5 touchdowns... In a normal scoring league, I would get 30 points(5 touchdowns x 6 points for each touchdown). That is how you get your points.

There are different types of Fantasy Football leagues and different scoring systems.

Some leagues do not have a "live" draft, but give you a certain amount of "dollars" as your budget, and you are free to "buy" the players you want for your team. The strategy behind this league-type is how you budget your "money". Do you go for a few expensive big name players and fill the rest of your roster with low-cost high risk players? Or do you buy a team full of mediocre players in hopes a couple of them turn out to be stars? You get the idea... we'll discuss strategy later.

Some leagues have a live draft, whereas there is on order to which everyone takes their turn. Once it is your turn, you choose a player from the list that someone has not already taken for their team. The strategy needed behind this league-type is how you draft... do you draft the Best Player Available? or do you draft based on which position slots you need to fill?

Some leagues have a live draft, but also offer a way to draft for people that can't make it to the actual draft(whether it be online or in real life). This is usually done by the person making a pre-draft rankings of all the players they want. This method allows them to make a list of who they would draft if it were their turn, and the computer or commisioner of the league will take the next person that is available on their list when their turn comes up.

Got the idea??

Stay tuned for the next update!
